In October 2019, the overall planning of the World Laureates Community (WLC) was officially released and its construction has been underway since 2021. Located in the Lin-gang Special Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, with a planning area of 2.5 square kilometers, WLC strives to become the birthplace of scientific breakthroughs in the new era, foresee the next frontier in science and pools talents for tomorrow.

The core concept is the needs of scientists, which guide the design of this prospective science city. By introducing the laureate international joint laboratories, innovative R&D centers, and major tech capitals, WLC will create an open and self-sustained research community where scientific discoveries are made and world's rising sci-tech talents are nurtured.
